Lincoln residents expressed their grief in the wake of the mass shootings in a gay nightclub in Orlando with a vigil and silent march through the city.
Some 49 people were killed and 53 were injured when a gunman opened fire in the Pulse club in Florida at 2am on Sunday, June 12.
In response, members of Lincoln’s LGBT+ community were joined by others wishing to pay tribute on Saturday, June 18.
The march through the city culminated in a gathering at the St Peter at Arches Square, where a number of speeches and musical performances were heard.
The group then observed a minute silence.
The gunman was identified as Omar Mateen, 29, from Florida, who had allegedly claimed allegiance to ISIS before the attack. Many have claimed he was a regular at the venue.
The Islamic Association of Lincoln previously condemned the attack, Chairman of the association describing the scenes as “horrific” and urging people of all or no faith to stand together against terrorism and extremism.
